Lea Katherine Thompson
Thompson was
born on May 31st 1961 in Rochester (Minnesota), [ one of five children of
Clifford Barry Thompson, a musician. [ She has two sisters, Coleen Goodrich and
Shannon Katona, and two brothers, Andrew and Barry. Her mother is of Irish
descent. She was a ballet student when she was a child and began dancing
professionally by the age of 14, winning scholarship opportunities to San
Francisco Ballet, the Pennsylvania Ballet, and the American Ballet Theatre. When
she was 20 years aged and performing professionally with American Ballet
Theatre's Studio Company (then known as ABT II), the moment came to determine
if she would move to the company's main stage. Mikhail Baryshnikov (the artistic
director at the time) said to her that she was a fantastic dancer but was too
tall. She described that moment as "my epiphany" which led her to
quit dancing and become a ballet dancer. It was a wonderful moment since I
could have been banging my head against the wall for another 10 years.
"[She switched to acting. She relocated to New York at the age of 20 and
performed in numerous Burger King commercials in the 1980s, along with Sarah
Michelle Gellar. Her co-star in Back to the Future Part II was Elisabeth Shue.
and made her film debut in 1983 with Jaws in 3-D. She recalls the film as
"the very first movie I ever got, but I had lied and said that I'd seen
some other films, so when I showed up, I was really practically nothing. I said
I was able to water ski. I wasn't. Therefore, I had five days of learning
really, really complicated water-skiing tricks, since I was expected to
participate in the Sea World water-skiing show. I don't even know the way that
swimming works!" The album was followed by All the Right Moves (1983) as
well as Red Dawn(84), as well as The Wild Life (1984).
