Melanie Jayne Lynskey

Melanie Jayne Lynskey (born 16 May 1977) is an New Zealand actress. She is known for her charming, soft-spoken but strong character. She works mainly in films that are independent. Her awards include her winning a New Zealand Film Award, a Hollywood Film Award and a Sundance Special Jury Award, as well as Gotham Award, Golden Nymph Award, Critics' Choice Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Lynskey was a teenage murderess who made her film debut in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures (1994). After her move to the United States, Lynskey built a career as a supporting actor in a number of smaller and large-budget movies like Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But... (both 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000) and Sweet Home Alabama (both 2002) Shattered Glass (2003), Flags of Our Fathers (2006) and Away We Go!, Up in the Air!, Leaves of Grass (2009), Win Win (2011) as well as Seeking a Flower (both 2014), They Came Together (2014) and Don't Look Up (2021). Lynskey's leading role in the film Hello I Must Go (2012) was praised by critics and also a nomination for The Gotham Award for Breakthrough Performer. This was a crucial event in her career. Later, she was a lead in Happy Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm Not Feeling at the Home of This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018) and Lady of the Manor (2021) have established her as an influential figure in the American independent film community. Lynskey's performance as Rose in CBS The sitcom Two and a Half Men (1903-2015) was a huge hit. From 2015 to 2016she was a character on Michelle Pierson on the HBO series Togetherness and received an award nomination for the 2015 Critics Choice Television Award for the Best Supporting Actress. She was the voice of Beatrice for the Cartoon Network's Over the Garden Wall (2014) and Megan for Disney XD's Future-Worm! (2016-2018). She also appeared as Molly Strand on the first season of Hulu's Castle Rock (2018) and played Rosemary Thomson in the FX miniseries Mrs. America (2020).
